Winner: R. Lucas

The second edition of The Lumber Shield saw the expansion of the league from 8 to 16 players. It started off with the last winner, H. Cooper, being beaten in the first round by a new comer, N. Casey. The second match saw two newcomers, both of which were either seriously out of practice or just learning the game take on each other, however D. Chase managed to prevail. The third match, saw third ranked D. Phillips take a relatively easy victory over E. Casey, a newcomer albeit. The fourth match saw K. Lamb take out a seriously out of form B. Bennett, to move on to the second round. A. Lewis and R. Lucas both got free passes on to the second round because of some players not appearing. Match 7 saw fourth ranked R. McKoy take out another out of shape player in M. Brown to move on to the second round. The final first round match saw a more experienced R. Santos take out C. Clarke, though both were newcomers.
The second round started off with comfortable victories for both N. Casey and D. Phillips, while R. Lucas and R. McKoy had more challenging opponents but managed to prevail in straight sets, R. Lucas taking out the number two raked A. Lewis in the process.
The semi-finals saw two competitive matches being played. D. Phillips managed to prevail over N. Casey in a tension filled match. R. Lucas continued his impressive run by taking out, fourth ranked R. McKoy who was again eliminated in the semi-finals.
The finals saw two fairly good defensive players square off, D. Phillips was as usual displaying his tough and accurate backhand while R. Lucas showed off his tough to read spin shots which could get most opponents out of their game, especially if they hadn't played him much before. R. Lucas prevailed in a tight three setter to take the second Lumber Shield title.
